Speaking at last week's launch of the Better Care: Better Lives palliative care strategy, Lewis promised the implementation of the strategy will be tracked. "We have to have a group of people, including family members and the voluntary sector, overseeing the implementation of these services," he said.
Lewis also announced £20m for hospice and hospice-at-home services. The money will be spread over two years starting in 2009. The government's strategy proposes an expansion of community nurses and better end-of-life care for children.
