Wales: Welsh youth clubs receive 17m for computer labs

1 min read

Youth charity Canllaw Online last month received 8.9m from the Welsh European Funding Office to carry out the two-and-a-half year project. Private companies have supplied the rest of the money for the project, which is entitled Credu or "to believe". Work on the project will start later this year.

Canllaw Online will set up 82 "digilabs" in youth centres in disadvantaged areas of Wales by May 2005. The labs will include PCs, webcams, video-conferencing technology, and video and music-editing tools. PCs adapted for young people with special needs will also be provided.

Fujitsu Services is providing the equipment.

Canllaw Online is also developing a web portal to complement the project.
