Some 90 staff face unemployment at the end of December when Rathbone shuts down two of its 11 centres, in Haverfordwest and Caerphilly, after a protracted dispute over funding with Education and Learning Wales (ELWa).
Darrel James, deputy director of Rathbone, said the charity has incurred losses in Wales for the past 17 months because ELWa has cut funding. "In England, we receive 2,997 per learner, in Scotland we get 2,999; but in Wales we get 2,150, which is a shortfall of around 800 for the same course," he said.
Rathbone has lost more than 750,000 in Wales since April this year, compared with a loss of more than 500,000 in its previous financial year.
