Wales: Fears ignored over closure of agency

A letter sent by Howard Williamson, acting chair of the agency and Young People Now columnist, on 28 January as part of a consultation on the organisation's future raised a series of concerns about the assembly government's plan to take over the agency's work.

But in her reply of 23 February, Jane Davidson, Wales' minister for education and lifelong learning, did not directly answer any of the agency's points.

A longer response from Davidson on 8 March outlined some of the action the government intends to take, but still left many concerns answered.

Five areas were of particular concern to Williamson: the ability of the assembly government to support youth work; the "dilution" of youth work principles; legal questions about the assembly government's new role; independence; and the lack of clarity about the plans.
