The five-day scheme is a pilot version of the concept of 10-day residentials that will be rolled out next year.
A group of 25 young people aged 16 to 18 are spending the week at Warrington Peace Centre. They will explore the concept of identity, work in the community, and engage in 36 challenges to promote teamwork.
Paul Oginsky, chief executive of the Young Adult Trust, said: "The residential provides a challenging and secure environment for young people from all communities to think about what they would be doing if they were recognised as adults."
Young people are drawn from bodies such as The Prince's Trust, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and Croydon Council, which hopes to run the first full pilot.
