VOLUNTARY SECTOR: Isle of Dogs group gives youth funding

1 min read
Two schemes to support young people in southeast London were included in grants totalling 50,000 from the Isle of Dogs Community Foundation.

The foundation gave 40,000 to Docklands Youth Services, a network of voluntary services for young people, to help run its programme of summer events, including art, sports and day trips.

A 1,500 grant was also given towards a pilot scheme to create a forum for young women aged 16 to 24 in the Blackwall area, run by voluntary community group Splash.

The 10-week pilot, which will finish at the end of September, is designed to help young women identify their needs, and also to help support other groups in the area.

Splash senior youth worker Edwin Lewis said: "Most of the youth provision in the area is dominated by boys, and young women can sometimes find this quite daunting."
