Vodafone's 5m to tackle exclusion

Youth Work
A group of charities led by online organisation YouthNet are to spend 5m over the next three years helping young people who face social exclusion.

The money has come from Reach, Vodafone UK Foundation's funding programme, and will be used to empower and equip all 16-25 year olds to make informed life choices about their work, study and training.

YouthNet, Rathbone, the Foyer Federation and education and disability charity Skill will work with the foundation over the coming months to develop a detailed programme ready for its launch in April 2008.

Sarah Shillito, head of the Vodafone UK Foundation, said the four charities showed their collaboration would offer more to young people than individual programmes could.

The programme includes workshops to engage young homeless people, a helpline for disabled young people and engagement teams to reach out to those at risk of offending. There will also be a website designed by young people to give information to other young people.
