Value of polyclinics called into question

Health
A health policy think-tank has warned that plans to bring GP and hospital services under one roof will do little to improve children's health services.

The Under One Roof: Will Polyclinics Deliver Integrated Care? report by the King's Fund said there is no evidence that including children's services in polyclinics offers any benefit.

Polyclinic pilot schemes have included everything from children's centres and child and adolescent mental health services to education and social services. But the report said more work is needed to improve joint working if polyclinics are to succeed.

The report also raised concerns about access and said families with young children in rural areas will suffer the most.
