Birmingham care called into question

1 min read Health
A national inquiry must be conducted into poor practices at a leading children's hospital, children's health charities have said.

A leaked report claimed that staff at Birmingham Children's Hospital had previously raised concerns about the quality of care, which were not taken seriously.

The report, which surfaced last weekend, said that there was a perception of "poor and disorganised" management and a lack of confidence in managers at all levels.

Pamela Barnes, chair of Action for Sick Children, said there must be an independent inquiry led by at least four doctors from leading children's hospitals.

"This is not something to be taken lightly," she said. "There needs to be an investigation with people from children's hospitals such as Great Ormond Street and Bristol. They must audit what exactly has gone on and come up with some recommendations as to what must be done."
