Uniformed Youth Work: Cadets merge with The Marine Society

A shortage of young people entering both the shipping sector and the Royal Navy helped to fuel the move.

Captain Jeremy Howard, director of The Marine Society, which provides educational opportunities for young people to spend a week on a boat, said: "The Sea Cadet Association is part of the Royal Navy, while we are aligned with the Merchant Navy and the shipping sector. We hope the merger will lead to young people becoming interested in careers in the maritime sector as a whole."

The merger will help reduce the administration costs of the two charities, which will now be jointly known as The Marine Society and Sea Cadets.
