- What does your job involve?
I review our training and work with young volunteers to develop training initiatives and ensure the charity is focused on its main users. I manage a team that provides support to the corporals on training issues. I also lead on our international exchange programme and cadet leadership courses, and run safeguarding training for senior volunteers and staff.
- How did you get into this area of work?
I've worked in the youth sector since graduating from university in Australia. When I moved to the UK I initially worked for a local authority, then moved into this job in 2006. Working in the charitable sector appealed to me and offered an opportunity to help volunteers and young people influence decision making, which is something I feel passionate about. I am not into sailing myself, but the opportunities we offer young people through our offshore and boating programmes are fantastic.
