A support network for the Arab region will be set up in the UK after the trip, building on Scouting networks in Russia, Poland and Africa.
Although Egypt is in Africa, it is classed as the Middle East, explained Jackie Martin, international adviser at the Scout Association.
"The network will support young people and leaders to go on reciprocal visits, along with leader training for the Arab region," she said. Scouts and leaders in the UK will plan and raise funds for a trip to the region up to two years beforehand.
Sixteen members of staff and volunteers from the UK went on the trip, which was hosted by the Egyptian Scout Federation, each raising about 450.
Martin said: "This is the first trip of its kind and we met Scouts and leaders from 13 countries in the Arab region." The purpose is to improve perceptions and build understanding and respect for both sides, explained Martin.
