Training: Faith group to open mentoring scheme

Young people will pay 450 a year for their place on the Radish scheme, launching on 24 June, which will consist of a weekly "discipleship" meeting with a mentor, four residential training weekends, materials and two "action opportunities".

The scheme will include an 11-day tour of six cities at the end of July to set up family fun days, and work at the Spree youth camp in Haywards Heath.

The project is the beginning of what Crusaders, which has 20,000 members in 450 youth groups, hopes will be a new approach to targeting older teenagers.

Phil Hulks, national director, said: "Young people who get into leadership positions too quickly have a long way to fall, so we wanted to prepare them for those roles. With leadership comes criticism."
