Toy Libraries: Tamworth scheme wins quality award

1 min read
A Staffordshire toy library last week became the first in the UK to gain a new quality award.

The Riverside Toy Library in Tamworth received the Quality Play Mattersaward after completing a scheme developed by the National Associationfor Toy and Leisure Libraries. The accreditation scheme was launched inOctober 2005 and is the first designed specifically for the sector.

Toy libraries have to demonstrate they are well-managed, have goodpolicies and procedures in areas such as staffing and book-keeping, andwork well with children and families.

Tim Bearcroft, the association's training and development manager, saidthe scheme was needed because other awards didn't fit the needs of toylibraries. "It has worked very well," he said. "As with anything new,we've learned along the way about how to support and help others, anddoing it more effectively."
