
A mentoring scheme dubbed "hoodie buddies" is likely to form part of Tory youth justice policy, it has emerged.
The idea is part of a Conservative Party bid to reduce the numbers of young people in custody by placing an emphasis on early inter- vention and rehabilitation.
CYP Now has learned that high-ranking Tory MPs have sounded out youth justice exp-erts on mentoring schemes. The apparent working title is likely to draw comparisons with David Cameron's so-called "hug a hoodie" speech in 2006, during which he called for more love to be shown to adolescents.
It is unclear exactly what the scope of the policy would be, although shadow justice minister David Burrowes told CYP Now that supervision is key to reducing reoffending and preventing crime.
