The National Youth Agency: Youthinformation.com wins an award for'best information site'

Purple Youth, an online resource for professionals working with young people, described this year's batch of entrants as especially competitive.

All entries were viewed and judged by three panels of young people across the country. One of the young judges, 15-year-old Romeo, singled out youthinformation.com for praise, saying: "This did exactly what it said it would - give information to young people."

Currently receiving hits from more than 70,000 unique users a month, youthinformation.com was originally launched as a disk-based information system in January 1997, but following two years of development with young people and those who work with them, it has evolved into a crucial free resource on the internet. It now includes about 1,200 information topics and holds contact details for more than 1,400 national organisations, including hundreds of built-in web links. Half of the regular visitors to the site are young people.
