Organised by the National Library for the Blind, the awards are designed to honour those web sites that are particularly accessible to viewers who have visual impairments. Those sites nominated were chosen for their clarity, ease of navigation and the overall quality of their content.
At the ceremony held on 2 March, presented by Red Dwarf star Robert Llewellyn, Youthinformation.com was narrowly pipped at the post by the considerably better resourced Connexions Direct.
The NYA web site co-ordinator, Esther Cameron, said: "We were delighted to be nominated. For us to be considered alongside the likes of Connexions Direct is a welcome reflection on the quality of what we have to offer.
It offers further encouragement to everyone involved."
Other winners included Your London (www.yourlondon.gov.uk) and the RNID (www.rnid.org.uk). Pop star Kate Bush's web site received the altogether less desirable wooden spoon award.
