Many young people living in rural areas are excluded from accessing public services, further education, vocational training and jobs because of the lack of a useful or affordable public transport system.

Young people's social life is also severely restricted, reports a recent study from London University's Institute of Education. Until they can learn to drive and get their own car, they often have to rely on parents, friends and employers to give them lifts.

Thousands of people living in poor or isolated rural areas will receive free computers as part of a Government scheme announced today.
