The new right applies to land classified as open country. This refers to mountain, moor, heath, down and common land in two specified areas: the lower Northwest and the Southeast.
The coming 18 months will see all areas of open country in England and Wales being opened for public access. This begins with South Central England on 14 December. For more information about your right to roam, visit The Ramblers Association web site at www.ramblers.org.uk/freedom.
