THE NATIONAL YOUTH AGENCY: YOUTHINFORMATION.COM LOOKS AT... Childminders and Babysitters.

1 min read

The law states that anyone providing day care for a child under eight years old for more than two hours per day, must register with their local Social Services department.

Registered childminders are also checked by the local authority social services department. This includes a visit to their home to see if it is safe and suitable before they can become registered, and they must have insurance to cover their work.

A childminder can look after a maximum of six children, including their own, under the age of eight years. If the children are under five then only up to three can be looked after.
