The eight-page leaflet looks at some possible curriculum issues including political conversations, sources of information and their reliability, conflict resolution and establishing good communication. It encourages young people to explore some of the realities of war by examining first-hand accounts, using imagination to picture bombing raids and thinking through an imaginary war scenario in the UK.
It then goes on to consider listening, advice and counselling on racism, bullying and Islamophobia, and risk assessment, before concluding with "The Wall of Silence" exercise - an opportunity for young people to express their own views.
Copies have been sent to all local authority youth services and national voluntary organisations and a downloadable pdf version is available at www.nya.org.uk. Limited further copies (three per request) are available free from The NYA.
