The National Youth Agency: Young people in South West secure funds to challenge media coverage

1 min read
Young people in the South West, fed up with their often negative image in the media, have been given a grant from the Big Lottery Fund to promote a more positive impression.

The project, Sounds Positive, will be co-ordinated by the Regional Youth Work Unit (RYWU) based at Learning South West in Taunton, Somerset, and the UK Youth Parliament (UKYP). The National Youth Agency has supported the project. The grant is worth £324,712 over four years.

The initiative comes directly from young people themselves and was agreed to be a priority for the region by the 60 members of the UKYP in the South West. Once the project is under way over 200 young people throughout the region will be trained and supported to engage with the media and promote the issues that matter to young people.
