The next meeting of the Research, Policy and Practice Forum on Young People, which brings together a wide range of people from different areas of work with young people, will look at young people and self-esteem.
It takes place in Birmingham on 6 February 2003.
The Forum, organised by The National Youth Agency with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Department for Education and Skills, will take as its starting point the controversial JRF publication Self-Esteem - The Costs and Causes of Low Self-Esteem by Nicholas Emler, which concludes that: "Self-esteem can be raised through interventions, but the case for doing so and more particularly for diverting public resources into such efforts, has yet to be proved." Nicholas Emler will be speaking at the Forum.
