Organisation: Huntingdonshire District Council/New Ramp Group (NRG)
Issue: Skatepark renovation
The situation A campaign launched by the New Ramp Group (NGR) that was made up of young people convinced Huntingdonshire District Council of the need to renovate the local skatepark. NGR raised funds and the council supported the project through funding, supplying architects, ongoing maintenance, community development time and promotion of the project. The renovation ideas came from local skaters and BMXers.
What children and young people said
We (the design team) had to organise our own meetings and decide what went into the park; there were no other contributors.
What's changed The skate park has now been renovated to the requirements of local skaters and BMXers. There are lots of different groups of young people meeting socially at the skatepark. The park is used extensively, with visitors increasingly coming from local surrounding areas to use the facilities. "We are constantly hearing and being told by the skaters that more and more people like the park."
