Organisation: Sighthill Library, Edinburgh Issue: Library Renovation Scheme/reducing antisocial behaviour

The situation: Young people used to congregate outside the library. There had been incidents of antisocial behaviour, sometimes with the need for police involvement. Library staff wanted to develop positive relationships with young people and increase their involvement in the library. They invited young people to take part in the library renovation.

What children and young people said: "We asked for loads of things because it was really boring and we didn't have anything to do." "We have some of the things that we asked for like a listening post, DVDs and comfy seats." "It was rubbish before and we wanted somewhere good to hang around in. The staff listened to us and the library is much better now. The staff are much better as they play football against us."
