Working with young people who live in relatively isolated areas has long been a challenge for the youth worker, bringing with it special methods and practices to facilitate young people's involvement. The National Youth Agency has a solid background in promoting rural youth work - one of its partner organisations is Rural Youth, and it has also published two books reflecting on the issues and good practice, Nothing Ever Happens Around Here and its follow-up, Who Says Nothing Ever Happens Around Here?
This event, led by renowned trainer Vanessa Rogers, aims to consider issues around confidentiality, look at access to services and consider the merits of detached and outreach work. It will also enable participants to try out activities and share both good practice and support networks.
- On 3 February 2005 a second training event at The National Youth Agency's new offices in Leicester will offer professionals working with young people an opportunity to look at effective ways to bring diversity issues into the curriculum. "Challenging young people with discriminatory behaviour", again led by trainer Vanessa Rogers, will explore relevant anti-discriminatory practice and legislation, and will look at how this translates into youth work. As usual with our "Ideas Into Action" series of events, the training will be fully interactive, sharing good practice and offering opportunities to try out activities to use with young people.
