The National Youth Agency: NYA backs democracy campaign

1 min read

The association has decided to expand the scheme, previously confined to an annual week-long initiative known as Local Democracy Week, into a year-round campaign to make young people aware that they have the power to shape communities.

As well as involving young people, Take Part Take Power aims to increase councillor involvement in citizenship teaching and to persuade councils to devolve power, giving young people and other local people more of a say.

Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart, chairman of the association, said: "We all recognise that we have to inspire young people to become involved in shaping their local communities. When they do, it is of benefit not only to young people, but also helps the council with new ideas." For more information, visit The NYA web site: www.nya.org.uk.
