The National Youth Agency: New Spotlight highlights opportunity of14-19 curriculum reform proposals

1 min read

In its latest Spotlight briefing paper, The NYA is calling for the inclusion of wider activities in the core curriculum. It believes this will make a fundamental difference to the achievement of the many young people who currently underachieve in the formal education system and who have opted out or become marginalized from learning.

The NYA welcomes much within the proposed 14-19 reforms, which are designed to ensure all young people develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they will need for success in later learning, employment and adult life.

However, it believes greater emphasis and recognition should be given to the role youth work plays in providing and assessing wider activities and non-formal learning opportunities for young people and that young people should be directly involved in the development of further proposals, using the model of Connexions boards.
