Leading and managing youth work and services for young people is organised into 12 chapters that cover the context of youth work and youth services, principles and theories of modern management, strategic use of resources, monitoring progress, reporting to stakeholders and building relationships.
The 247-page book was initially developed as a reader for the Transforming Youth Work Management Programme. This course was developed with government funding by a consortium of bodies, including The National Youth Agency, University of Leicester and the Association of Principal Youth and Community Officers and delivered by Ford Partnership Management (fpm). The highly successful six-day course ran over the period 2002-04, providing senior youth work staff managers around the country with the opportunity to develop new skills as leaders and managers of services.
