The film, first shown on the BBC Learning Zone, follows the dramatic and poignant story of teenager Jay and the impact alcohol has made on his life. The only escape route he sees for himself is to join the army like his absent father, a dream he shares with Matthew, a boy from the block who craves acceptance from Jay's gang.
During a row with his mother Jay discovers a startling truth about his father. In a state of distress he meets a group of his friends and they all spend the night by the canal downing vodka and alcopops until, in an agonisingly realistic sequence, Jay, Matthew and friends are confronted with the perils of drinking.
