The National Youth Agency: Doers and shapers website shares learning from Beacons

1 min read
A new online resource on The National Youth Agency's (NYA) website is the outcome of a two-year funded programme to develop, test and learn from a range of approaches to involving young people in service development, delivery and evaluation in the public sector.

Doers and Shapers, connecting the public sector with young volunteers, tracked the Beacon Peer Support Programme's Positive Youth Engagement theme.

The Beacon scheme is a good practice programme run by the Department of Communities and Local Government and the Improvement and Development Agency. It is designed to recognise practice excellence in local government and to facilitate the sharing of this experience within local authorities in England. In 2006, eight local authorities were awarded Beacon Status under the Positive Youth Engagement theme and went on to secure funding from the Department of Communities and Local Government, and the Office for the Third Sector at The Cabinet Office for a two year programme.
