Funding for an additional two years will follow to enhance Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP) provision and target those young people most at risk of involvement in gang violence and disorder. From 2009 until 2011, all remaining local authority areas will receive extra funding. It is clear that local authorities have the discretion to spend the money based on local need, local knowledge and best practice from previous project experiences. Demands from central government for performance reporting and data collection are refreshingly minimal and The National Youth Agency has been given the lead task of co-ordinating, supporting, training and discerning the impact of the extra spends.
