Which is why I think in this country it's sad that the pastime still has something of a reputation as being for the rich and privileged only (Cowes, of course, doesn't really help in this regard - lots of people there who can afford to tear up 50 notes and were brought up on cold showers). In France, there's far less sailing snobbery - its appeal is universal, a bit like soccer in this country.
The snippet that caught my attention said that a certain Peter Harrison is planning a "National Youth Yacht Racing Academy"(he's the person who orchestrated the GBR challenge in that most famous of yacht races, the America's Cup, so he's clearly a man who knows how to get things done against the odds).
