For many, transitions to adulthood stretch out beyond the distant horizon. Inspiring them to focus on a real horizon can teach them so much about themselves and others. It never fails to amaze me what can be achieved through outdoor educational activities that combine enjoyment, challenge, learning and achievement.
And proof, if proof were needed, arrived this week with a heartwarming story from the Ocean Youth Trust North East. This charity provides people aged 12 to 25 from all backgrounds with a chance to develop and learn new skills, build confidence and self-esteem, teach teamwork skills and try something new and different through its sail training programmes.
