The National Youth Agency: Comment - Badge of honour

Here's a parlour game you can play at your next team meeting, or something to while away those long hours sitting in a queue of traffic on the motorway watching the rain drip off the windscreen while you wait to reach your holiday destination.

It may have escaped your notice that The Scout Association presented 15 of its badges to a variety of individuals in the public eye as part of its annual Scout Birthday Honours. Half a million members from across the UK had the opportunity to vote online for public figures who have inspired young people and contributed to wider society.

Joanna Lumley (of course, and who could begrudge her any honour or award) received the Communicator Badge for her work for the Gurkha Justice Campaign. Sir Chris Hoy got the Cyclist Badge. Sailor Dame Ellen MacArthur picked up the Water Sports Instructor Badge for the work her trust does taking young people with serious illnesses sailing.
