National Youth Agency: Comment -- Scouting successful at getting the message over

1 min read
Hats off to The Scout Association.

The World Scouting Association is the world's biggest youth organisation, with more than 28 million members in 216 countries. Now, in the UK the organisation has experienced its biggest growth since 1972, with more than 16,000 new members in the past year, taking total membership to almost half a million.

And the number of adult leaders is on the increase, too, for the second year running, with 2,871 leaders (including one of our NYA colleagues, who recently became a Beaver Scout leader).

What a fantastic achievement. A complete vindication of its strategy to give the organisation a makeover and make Scouting more appealing to today's young people. Recent reviews have included a new uniform, training, image and programme of activities.
