This is understandable given the role of the new Directorate, and Althea has a vital role within it which will use her considerable skill and experience (including that in youth work).
We should mark its passing - and keep an eye on what happens to its legacy.
The CYPU was the first attempt to create a machinery which cut across Whitehall and acknowledged that young people did not divide their lives into the boundaries shaped by government departments. It emphasised the need for a holistic approach to needs and drew attention to features of young people's wellbeing, even enjoyment - a concept that did not find favour in No 10's Policy Unit.
