The National Youth Agency: Comment - Fork handles?

So now when I think I'm finally there, using "proper words" in the "proper way", the Department of Health releases the children's national strategic framework. And once again, I'm finding myself embarrassed during meetings with health officials and professionals whenever the NSF is mentioned and we all get confused, as unfortunately the national strategic framework shares this acronym with the Neighbourhood Support Fund.

Cultural differences, whether across generations, ethnicity, regions or organisations, impact on language and understanding, which is a bit worrying given the range of strategies and initiatives that emphasise the participation of young people and partnership work. How can we ensure not only that we express ourselves and what we express is understood, but also that the words have the same meaning. To recall the classic Two Ronnies sketch, we need to be conscious that when young people ask for the "four candles" that they don't get handles for forks.
