The National Youth Agency: Comment - All shall have prizes

1 min read

Perhaps that position is changing? Last year we had the first-ever national "Children and Young People's Awards" evening, presented by Young People Now, a glitzy occasion with a good range of youth work showcased and celebrated. The impressive YoungMinds charity provides a rather different take on the process by honouring books that, it is judged, have handled matters of young people's mental health particularly well in the previous year.

And now we are to have the Youth Challenge competition - "Actions speak louder ...". This will celebrate the engagement of young people in making decisions about local youth provision through the Youth Opportunity Fund and Youth Capital Fund. The events will be both local and national (on 29 March), giving a wonderful platform for young people to demonstrate their leadership and social entrepreneurship. It's a good opportunity, too, for local youth services to gain some plaudits from local politicians and senior officers for their work with young people, especially in empowering the more disadvantaged.
