The National Youth Agency: Changing the world at the Oxfam YouthParliament

1 min read

Three hundred young people aged 18 to 24 arrived in Sydney earlier this month for the second Oxfam International Youth Parliament (OIYP).

The aim of the parliament is to change the world. Delegates from 113 countries got stuck into this challenge from the start as each had brought an action plan to change their community.

Umar Kankiya, from London, wants to use his experience of being an MYP to help others set up youth parliaments in their own countries. Nour Mousawy wants to provide basic healthcare education and clean water to her community in Iraq.

Zuhra Bahman wants to provide libraries to schools in Afghanistan because books helped her through a difficult time in her life. Many of the African delegates are working on HIV/Aids and youth empowerment was a concern for delegates from all continents.
