Government plans for its repeal have been supported by Bishop Roger Sainsbury, chair of The NYA. In a statement to coincide with the second reading in the House of Lords, he called for the myths that have grown up about what Section 28 is believed to mean to be dispelled because of the harm they do in preventing good youth work being implemented in the best interests of young people.
"Misunderstandings about Section 28 and its implications have made many people dedicated to the personal and social development of young people afraid to help and have further isolated too many already troubled young people, both in the school and youth work setting," he said.
