The National Youth Agency: 14-19 Transformation

The National Youth Agency's chief executive, Fiona Blacke, will be one of the headline speakers at Haymarket's inaugural conference examining the 14-19 Transformation Agenda - a one-day conference in London on 30 April.

Next year will signal a fundamental change in the way education and training services for 14- to 19-year-olds are commissioned, with £7bn of funding transferred from the Learning and Skills Council to local authorities across the country. This represents a major challenge for councils and an expansion of the existing role of children's services professionals as they will take on the commissioning responsibilities for learning and education strategy in their area. The policy sets the scene for raising the school leaving age to 18 by 2015 with a view to radically improving the participation and achievements of young people and, ultimately, reducing the number of young people not in education, employment or training (Neet).
