
When Peter and Charlotte were toddlers, their father served six months in the Falklands. "Peter would see other RAF policemen in uniform and say: 'Is that my daddy?'" says mum Joanna*. "When my husband came back it was like Peter couldn't believe it was him. He was shy and reserved. It was a sad time."
About eight years later, their dad was deployed to Iraq for six months. Peter is now 14 and his mum acknowledges being in a RAF family has not always been easy for him or Charlotte, now 13. Leaving a much-loved school and spending Christmas without dad have been particularly hard.
