
The proposal announced in this year’s Budget will see an extra £2m a year devoted to the grant, which exists to support the families in the armed forces.
The government is also investing cash into improving accommodation and increasing council tax relief for forces families. The plans will be funded from savings made as combat operations in Afghanistan are reduced.
"We will fund an extra £100m of improvements in the accommodation of our armed forces and their families," Osborne said. "I will also double the families welfare grant, which is used to provide additional support to the families, left behind when people deploy."
