The Government

If I were in charge of the government I would stop blaming schools for young people's behaviour problems. A school's role is very different to a parent's role and I feel the government tends to confuse this.

As well as blaming schools, the public also blames agencies such as social workers, mental health services and Barnardo's, whose sole remit is to help children emotionally and physically. This obviously has an effect on their behaviour. Families are suspicious of all agencies that help, thinking they are out to blame and punish.

I believe the targets the government insists upon only complicate things by asking agencies to treat children as they should be and not as they are. The government should start funding more parenting classes. Furthermore, it should stop working against schools and begin working with agencies. This could be achieved by funding help for common youth problems, such as dyslexia and depression. We need more trained people to deal with these problems and that is not going to happen with the negative public image by which the media portrays the above agencies.
