The first thing I would change would be employment. Why can't we get a job like everyone else? As soon as we mention we have been in care we are looked down on and sent away, all our hard work and determination ignored.
Then, all we ever hear about is statistics. Statistics show that 50 per cent of kids in prison have also been in care. Well, the reason for this is the lack of facilities available to us. Many people assume that we get everything handed to us on a plate. This is not the case.
What happens to us when social services aren't in charge of our welfare anymore? We're left to our own devices and many of us struggle deeply and even fail. This is yet another issue I would fight to change. We need more help when we leave the care system and the younger generation need more clubs and activities to pass their time. Society complains about youths hanging around on street corners but if there were more centres for them, this would be a thing of the past.
