Usually this involves a stroll in central London, but the British Association of Social Workers (Basw) has gone a step - well, many steps - further with its Boot Out Austerity! 100-mile walk for social justice. In true spirit of the 1936 Jarrow March against unemployment, a crew of Basw comrades walked from Birmingham to Liverpool over seven days in April, arriving in time for the association's annual conference and AGM. Along the way, the intrepid walkers met members of the public to hear stories of how public sector spending cuts have affected them. Walking 100 miles is no mean feat, and this photo suggests the train may have been needed - via a trip to the pub - to help the stragglers. The organisers hope the walk will highlight the impact of austerity and why it needs to end.
