Croydon’s director of children’s services Robert Henderson had a foolproof plan to keep social workers sweet as Ofsted inspectors descended – to ply them with homemade cake.

The “proud” boss called on his team of star bakers – his daughter and dog – to whip up some treats for his “amazing” social workers, sharing his creations online.

Keen for no one to miss out – or inspired by Veganuary – Henderson announced he was “even baking a vegan option!”

Colleagues didn’t paws for thought before wishing Croydon well; Daisy the dog sent a good luck message from Team Lambeth, having seemingly taken over the Twitter account of the council’s deputy director of education, Clare Dudman.
