My plea is that, in the short term, everyone remains calm about child sexual exploitation (CSE), while all public agencies work together with the government to pool our knowledge, resources and experience of dealing with it in order to gain a clearer picture of risks and needs.
It's right to shine a light on the issue, but only a calm and measured approach will ensure that victims remain central to our efforts. In the longer term, we must collectively take steps to tackle the social, cultural and moral issues surrounding the root causes of CSE such as society's casual acceptance of degrading and sexualised representations of children, young people and women.
