The Young Mothers To Be award is offered to 14- to 19-year-old mothers to be and their partners through learning providers, including YMCAs and colleges. To date 2,500 teenagers have taken part.
But as the course does not meet National Qualification Framework standards, it is no longer eligible for LSC funding. To meet these standards, the Government has been looking at giving the course a more educational focus through features such as work placements.
But Sheila King, the award's programme manager, said this would make it harder for many young people to take part.
